X-Ray Image Inside of your PCB board with a blow out !

 

What’s the point of X-ray, and what are these “internal layers” we’re always talking about?

Well, I couldn’t have made a better example if I tried!

This is a perfect example of internal PCB trackwork being literally blown apart and vaporised.

The interesting part is that the damage hasn’t exploded across the surface where you can physically see it. It’s completely contained inside the centre layers of the circuit board.

Using X-ray, we can actually see the internal copper trackwork — and in this case, even droplets of molten copper left behind inside the PCB after the track failed.

From the outside, the board may look perfectly normal.

Inside? It’s a completely different story.

Now, are we going to fully repair this board? No. The internal damage is simply too extensive to consider it a reliable long-term repair.

But now we know exactly where the carnage is located.

That gives us the opportunity to potentially repair or bypass enough of the damaged circuitry to recover critical data from the module, or even get the machine operational temporarily so it can be moved or recovered.

Sometimes the objective isn’t to save the control board forever. It’s to understand where and how it failed, then use that information to achieve the best possible outcome for the customer.

That’s exactly why X-ray is such a valuable diagnostic tool for complex electronic repairs. Sometimes the fault is buried where a microscope simply can’t see it.
